Valentim Quaresma

Recently strolling around sunny and charming Lisbon we came across the work of Valentim Quaresma, portuguese jewellery designer, based in Lisbon, whose latest A/W 2011 collection for fashion designer Ana Salazar aroused immediately our senses. The metal pieces that we had the chance to see were beautifully crafted following the techniques of the traditional portuguese art of filigree. This ancient technique of metalworking, very popular as well in India and East Asia, wounds, twists, curls and braids the materials to achieve some intricate and extremely detailed compositions as the pictures posted under well show. Combined with the use of traditional national symbols such as the 14th century Order of Christ Cross (an heritage from the Knight’s Templar) among other esoteric elements, the overall effect of Quaresma’s work is just astonishing.
